State of Israel, which has notably established agricultural cooperatives, youth training centers and medical facilities in countries

By Jean- Pierre Alumba Lukamba

Leading to the next meeting of the Executive Council of the African Union, scheduled for this week the African Diaspora for Development, reiterates its call to African Heads of State to unanimously maintain the admission of the State of Israel as an observer member of the African Union.

Recalling that on July 22, 2021 – the African Union Commission officially granted Observer status to the State of Israel but that around 17 member countries are opposing it:

This includes the argument that the African people will derive great benefit from the State of Israel, which has notably established agricultural cooperatives, youth training centres and medical facilities in countries such as Ghana, Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Côte d’Ivoire:

Noting that to date, 46 of the 55 African countries maintain bilateral relations with the State of Israel.

The State of Israel supports the use of technology for the sustainable development of Africa in accordance with a resolution adopted by the United Nations:
Convinced that the admission to the African Union of Israel will help to advance the African continent towards a better future, for the well-being of the African peoples;
Recalling that Israeli-African cooperation is supported by the people and organizations that support the development of Africa:

The African Diaspora for Development joins its voice to those of other civil society organizations and asks:
1. To African Heads of State:  To include the question of the admission of the State of Israel to the African Union on the agenda of the Executive Council meeting scheduled for this week – To respect the guiding principle of the unity of the African Union and their obligation to AU Commission in accordance with Article 4.2 of the Statutes of the said Commission;

2. To the African people, youth movements, the African diaspora in its diversity, to business people, Trade Unions, civil society, faith-based organizations and others, to show their support for the admission of the State of Israel in the African Union by signing the following petition through the link below:
