It’s Time Zimbabwe Starts Winning Tournaments: Football Will Unite The Nation
It's hard for me to understand whether we're going forward or backward in terms of Zimbabwean football
By Terrence Mwedzi
It is heartbreaking to note that the Zimbabwean senior national team (Warriors) were booted out of the AFCON 2021 tournament following the 0-1 loss to the Lions of Teranga (Senegal) and the bizarre 1-2 loss to The Flames (Malawi).
In my previous articles in the leading online newspaper The Sunday Express, I mentioned that this AFCON tournament was going to surprise many football lovers around the world, and look, this is what is happening now.
Teams that used to be labeled losers now dominate the soccer scene. It's no secret that there are no perennial losers in football, and the big names don't play football. I have noticed that small teams should not be underestimated.
In the same vein, great teams like Ghana, Algeria, and Tunisia have suffered huge defeats in this tournament. It's ridiculous that reigning champions Algeria is also out of the AFCON showpiece.
In addition, the team was eliminated in the group stage, with only one point in the three games, one goal scored, four goals conceded.
