GARY O’Neil explained his decision to select Adam Smith over Jordan Zemura at left-back was based around containing James Maddison.

The Leicester City dangerman scored twice and provided one assist as the Foxes thrashed Nottingham Forest 4-0 on Monday night.

But he was kept quiet as Cherries beat Brendan Rodgers’s side 2-1 at Vitality Stadium, with Patson Daka’s opener cancelled out by goals from Philip Billing and Ryan Christie.

O’Neil made two changes to his XI which drew 0-0 with Brentford last weekend, with Ryan Fredericks and Christie coming in for Zemura and Kieffer Moore.

Fredericks operated at right-back, with Smith playing on the left, aided by Marcus Tavernier dropping deeper when Cherries were out of possession.

Asked for his thinking behind bringing in Fredericks for Zemura and moving Smith to left-back, O’Neil told the Daily Echo: “James Maddison is obviously a key player for Leicester.

“So we tried to come up with a plan that I felt would fit this side of the pitch.

“Our left-back didn’t end up playing much at left-back today, which is what I expected.
“You end up trying to follow James Maddison around a little bit, so I felt Smudge would be best for that.”

Meanwhile Jordan Zemura says that playing his very first season in the Premier League with Bournemouth, Jordan Zemura is already impressed by the level of the English elite.

The Zimbabwean finds pleasure in playing in this quality championship.

After the Championship, Jordan Zemura discovers the Premier League this season.
By comparison, the Zimbabwe international finds the English top flight more exciting than the second division.

He takes advantage of every minute that is offered to him to get pleasure and demonstrate his ability to play at a high level.

“The Premier League has something different. It’s something you dream of, so I just try to enjoy every game and every moment. I try to step onto the pitch and show what I’m capable of,” he said.

This season, Jordan Zemura has already played 7 Premier League games with his club Bournemouth. He is well illustrated, since he already has an assist.

Last season, the 22-year-old left-back scored 3 Championship goals in 33 games for Bournemouth. Since his first steps with the Reds and Blacks in August 2020, Jordan Zemura has played 47 games in all competitions.
