New television station Ke Yona TV was successfully launched in Bulawayo at an exhilarating event that was headlined by South African songstress Makhadzi.

Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa who was the Guest of Honour, said the launch of the TV station is the testimony of the government’s commitment to leaving no-one and no place behind.

“The launch of KeYona TV is testimony that we are a listening government. With Bulawayo being the cultural capital of the country, Ke Yona TV is set to unlock the city’s potential in the creative sector,” said Minister Mutsvangwa. Minister Mutsvangwa addressed the crowd and delegates via satellite.

Dr Qhubani Moyo, the chief executive officer of Ke Yona TV said: “This is a historic moment for us here in Bulawayo. Bulawayo is home to creatives, so we believe this station will help unlock this city’s potential in the creative industry.”

The Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube said the television will not only consolidate the city’s status as a hub of creative arts but will also create employment opportunities for the youths.

“The launch of KeYona is a consolidation of Bulawayo’s status as a hub of creative arts. Moreover, more employment opportunities will be created for hundreds of youths.”

John Msipa the Head of Operations at Zhomba Entertainment said this was a much-needed platform for Bulawayo to tell her story to the world through music, film, documentaries, and all forms of audio-visual productions.
