"By Akson Potera\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nMany countries the world over - Zimbabwe included - have been holding elections but their woes neither ended nor minimised. The sole purpose of an election is to elect leaders, fullstop.\\r\\n\\r\\nIt is neither the duty of Zimbabwe Electoral Commission - nor that of the voters - to groom leaders to be competent and deliver what they were or are expected of.\\r\\n\\r\\nNow we have to bear in mind that even a thief can be elected by other thieves continuously but the fact remains: an election has occurred and had its outcome, good or bad.\\r\\n\\r\\nSo the problems of a country aren't solved by an election instead problems are solved by people\\\/citizens.\\r\\n\\r\\nRemember all the leaders who are failing our government and our country were brought in by an election so does an election provide a solution to our problems?\\r\\n\\r\\nLet's think out of the box - and when we go for an election let's not think that our problems will be over because of the elections.\\r\\n\\r\\nSouth Africa has been holding democratic and peaceful elections since 1994 but has never solved her rational major problems such as rampant corruption, loadshedding, unemployment, land issue, and even racism.\\r\\n\\r\\nThe Zimbabwe situation needs another solution other than an election alone. Zim elections brought nothing since 1980.\\r\\n\\r\\nAn election may bring fruitful results if all voters know what they seek to achieve, why they vote, and if they are free to choose the leaders they want.\\r\\n\\r\\nIt is very painful that political parties participate in elections they claim to be always rigged and will never be free and fair therefore no doubt that electrical reforms are needed but the question is what results will u expect from flawed elections?\\r\\n<h2><strong>Political Intolerance<\\\/strong><\\\/h2>\\r\\nThe leadership of the current opposition - Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) in particular must throw away the blankets and stand up for Sikhala's Justice.\\r\\n\\r\\nThough the government may take it as a crime and here is a good and effective lesson from the genuine former liberation fighters.\\r\\n\\r\\nWhen they realised that the Smith Regime was not budging to their pressure and demands, they did not say villagers must stand up and fight, they led by example and villagers\\\/citizens\\\/povo followed suit. That is how independence was attained.\\r\\n\\r\\nIt looks like the current opposition is too smart to act!\\r\\n\\r\\nZanu and Zapu were once opposition parties of the 60s\\\/70s precisely the same as the opposition parties of the 90s\\\/2000s.\\r\\n\\r\\nThe only difference is that the latter is a political species of pen users even if a hole is to be dug, they have to find a suitable hypothesis to be applied.\\r\\n\\r\\nIt is deplorably painful to hear that the ones who should act are busy defending themselves that if they execute any action they too would be arrested and would not contest in the near elections.\\r\\n\\r\\nNow this clearly shows something I dont want to mention for now.\\r\\n\\r\\nIs a political position more important than the life of a living hero who created the party which we want positions in?\\r\\n\\r\\nThe most important asset\\\/resource of a political party is its supporters and members therefore letting one of the members rotting in jail without action is politically injustice.\\r\\n\\r\\nWe all know the political volatility in and of Zimbabwe and that should not deter the opposition from taking action to free Job Sikhala.\\r\\n\\r\\nZimbabwe problems need Zimbabweans.\\r\\n\\r\\nHiding in the terraces while Job Sikhala bears the brunt alone and even more others to follow will do more harm than good to the opposition.\\r\\n\\r\\nLike EFF in SA Zimbabwe - the main opposition must - eject cowardice - and replace it with bravery.\\r\\n\\r\\nCalling or encouraging citizens to act for Job Sikhala without the involvement of the leadership is politically disastrous.\\r\\n\\r\\nWe used to see Civic and Human rights organisations do more to defend those who are politically persecuted but, analytically, it looks like they too have detected a certain weakness that I too have detected.\\r\\n\\r\\nIt is not too early or too late to try and free Job Sikhala even if we will fail but an attempt will neutralise and control the damage that will be caused if no action will be taken.\\r\\n\\r\\nEqually, the Zanu pf government must stop targeting their opponents, leaving economic saboteurs, the gold mafia walking in public - scott free - as if there is nothing wrong.\\r\\n\\r\\nJob did not kill or harm anybody even if had done so he should have been tried and fined or sentenced.\\r\\n\\r\\nJob is our living hero! He is enduring the pain and sacrificing his life for us all and let's support and fight for him.\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n<em>Akson Potera is Interim President of ADP Zimbabwe. firstname.lastname@example.org.
