It Is The Duty Of Every Zimbabwean, To Condemn The Scourge Of Football Hooliganism
By Terrence Mwedzi
It is regrettable, if not worrisome, and infact abhorring that the match of the 22nd round of the Castle Lager Premier League between Dynamos (DeMbare) and Highlanders (Bosso) was abandoned again due to crowd trouble at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, and, undoubtedly, it was Bosso fans who caused the cancellation of the game.
They are also responsible for everything that happened on Sunday.
It is reported and witnessed that the game was stopped after thirty-five minutes, just moments after Dembare's second crucial goal. The chaos began when Bosso fans at the Soweto End (Empankweni) pelted the pitch with dozens of missiles and sharp objects before invading the pitch. How sad!
It is also worrying that Bosso fans are still trying to defend their invasion of the pitch and put all the blame on the match officials. Yes, referees can make mistakes, but violence and hooliganism is worse than bad refereeing, and the ugly scenes we witnessed at Barbourfields could have been avoided. This must never happen again.
Infact it must never have happened.
On the contrary, hooligans should be exposed, ruthlessly dealt with, and brought to justice. They should be punished more severely.
