This week Gweru 054 announced that it has been officially registered as a legal entity – and is now fully compliant with provisions and regulations of operating in Zimbabwe.

In a statement posted on the group’s social media – Gweru 054 said: “We are proud to announce that Gweru 054 is now officially registered as a full legal entity under the Companies and Other Business Entities Act [Chapter 24:31] and relevant regulations of Zimbabwe.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to restoring the dignity of Gweru and promoting accountability.

“As a dedicated pressure group, we are focused on advocating for the rights of Gweru’s citizens. Our registration empowers us to engage effectively with stakeholders, ensuring our voices are heard. We will share more details in future communications.

“We recognise the challenges ahead and we are determined to be catalysts for positive change. As led by our chairman Mr Farai Kalubi – our team has worked tirelessly to highlight most of the major challenges facing our city – water issues, electricity issues, billing issues – virtually everything. This is just the beginning

“Thank you for your support as we embark on this important journey towards progress,” the organisation said.

Gweru 054 has emerged in recent weeks as a force to be reckoned with – having taken on a leading role in galvanising support and highlighting pressing issues in the city’s broader development strategy.

“For instance we have championed the issue of the Gweru Sports Club. Zimbabwe is preparing to co-host two major global cricket tournaments, the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

“As a city and as residents we know that if we do not roll up our sleeves and clean up the administration of the city and look after our facilities and heritage – these sporting events may pass by us – and it is only us who can stand up and work with the municipality to rebuild our infrastructure,” Gweru 054 said.

“Many people miss valuable insights of what Gweru has to offer, often becoming distracted by political divisions instead of delving into the city’s rich history and significance.

“We are changing all of that and we are saying that the registration of Gweru 054 is a milestone in making Gweru a world class city,” the organisation said.

The Task Team is crucial in promptly addressing community concerns and ensuring effective governance.

State Of The City

Gweru 054 said that the current state of affairs in Gweru is alarming – as there are numerous instances where individuals are misusing municipality vehicles, or city assets registered under names of individuals who are not employed by the city.

Furthermore, the city of Gweru is facing significant challenges with land allocation and there are also reports of land barons who have taken advantage of their positions to allocate land to themselves and their associates.

As Gweru 054 the organisation is on a mission to root out all practices that perpetuate inequalities and inefficiency in urban
planning – adding that transparency and accountability must be upheld to restore trust and ensure equitable development for all residents of Gweru.

Gweru 054 is already running regular information sessions that highlight partnerships, promote community engagements and deal directly with municipality issues – grass, roads, sports facilities, stands, houses, conduct of the elected officials, water, cleaning up of Gweru river, and Go Beer among others.

The organisation is also championing collaborations with central government to attract large-scale projects, joint ventures, renewable energy projects, mentorships, business forums, training and building capacity in the city, as well as restoring its former glory.

In addition Gweru 054 is championing city businesses to market themselves vigorously and demystify the notion that Gweru is a city that people only pass by – to a new rallying call that Gweru is a city that people can invest in.
